Yes we may be feeling the slower economy and have had to make a few staff changes but its still business as usual. Each participant was asked to list 10 things about themselves as well as being provided with an assortment of supplies. Five people returned their completed layout for judging and from the entries two really stood out, creating a tie for first place. We're starting a new stamp club... Come learn tips and techniques in stamping with Veronica. Each month she will prepare several projects from cards, tags, bags and more showing how to use a variety of different stamping and scrapbooking products. This month the class is a fall/thanksgiving theme using stamps by Stampendous. The class fee includes your own stamp set!

25 Days of Christmas with Idette

Saturday we had the honor of hosting 2 classes taught by internationally known Designer Marah Johnson. Marah is a lead designer for Creative Imaginations and has designed several popular scrapbooking collections. She is known for experimentation in her art and she has never been one to be driven by the norm. Marah is always striving to try something new. Whether it is combinations of colors, textures and techniques. It is that fearless ability to try the unknown that has lead to her success as an artist. We witnessed and experienced Marah's talent with tons of glitter, alcohol inks, flocked papers and cardboard! Most of the class participants left with ink stained fingers and glittered faces but everyone had a fantastic time with smiles all around. We would like to thank Marah for spending the day with us and invite her back anytime.

New Stuff is store now

Today we received the Graphic 45 Baby 2 Bride collection - it's really pretty with a soft color palette of teal and peach. It's a great collection for both girls and boys plus it would make great wedding layouts with it's floral patterns hence the collection name. Plus all of Graphic 45 papers are double sided so you always have 2 options when creating with it.

Yesterday we received tons more Prima goodness including flowers, pearl swirls, flower centers and felt alphas. Who doesn't love that?? Come check out our selection, we're told it's the best around!

As we are typing this post, we see that somehow we never posted our ScrapPink pics... check them out on our sidebar. All the cropppers had a great time and left with tons of prizes and super full bellies! We want to thank Bagelworks, Subway (courtesy of Mary W.) and Tomasso's for treating us all to such wonderful food. We are in the process of calculating our total contribution to the Susan G. Komen foundation and we'll let you know the outcome.

Tomorrow we are holding our 3rd Annual ScrapPINK charity crop. The crop allows each participant a fun -filled day at here at Scrapbook Place while making a difference in the fight against breast cancer. We're proud to say we were able to raise $500 last year for the Susan G. Komen foundation and we hope to send an even bigger check this year. We're totally hyped... Marah Johnson's visit to Scrapbook Place is only is 3 1/2 weeks away! Marah will be here Saturday, October 17th and she will be teaching not one but two totally awesome technique classes!! The first is called the "Bird Book" using the ever polpular Tidepools collection and the second is a mini book based on the "TWILIGHT" saga. Both classes are technique heavy and you're sure to leave with a ton of sparkle and maybe inky fingers.

I grew up all over the United States. During my young childhood, my parents embraced the true “hippie” lifestyle and spent much time moving from place to place making and selling their art. Most of my parent’s friends were artisans or craftsmen. I would spend hours watching them create, and, after my constant pestering, nearly all of them would let me have a hand at their trade. By the age of six, I could tool leather, bead on a loom, carve faces from clay, and sew doll clothing on my sewing machine. I was always happiest if my hands were busy. That is still the case today. Michelle has left the building.... WOW - what a weekend. If you weren't here to witness all the creative genius that was being shared you really missed out. Michelle Van Etten is a fabulous teacher and true sweetheart. We would like to publicly thank her for teaching in the store and we welcome her back anytime.

Now on to business...we are still getting product from CHA. Can you believe it? Where is it all going to go - home with you!! Basic Grey brought us Eerie, Indian Summer and Eskimo Kisses. Tons of the new Prima is here and hanging on the wall. We're sold out already on some, but the good news is we've reordered and we're still waiting for more stuff to come. Do you love the Soft Spoken line from Me and My Big Ideas - well we've got those too - they are super cute with lots of bling and glitter. Are you a fan of felt? The Queen & Co. borders are here in several new themes as well as our faves. Jolee's, Jolee's and more Jolee's have finally made their way to us and you'll find some classics as well as several new deisgns and themes.

Is you child starting a city sponsered baseball or soccer team? We've got the perfect mini album to keep all those great memories or to make as a gift for the coach.

We're half way through the month and that means its judging time for our monthly challenge. Each challenger was asked to create a mini album this month and they were required to use the Bind-it-All. In case you haven't heard of this new tool, you'll definately want to come to the store to get a mini demo. Anyway, the entries were as terrific as ever. After must deliberation, a winner was chosen and the $50.00 gift card goes to Sandi D. Congrats!!

Yes, it's true, have a look.... We are the featured store on the Tattered Angels website. What a thrill to see our store highlighted on a national scrapbooking vendors website. What a great compliment, especially since one of their design team members, Michelle Van Etten will be here at the end of the week. There are still a few spot left in the Tattered Traveler class on Friday, September 11th, so if you procrastinated in signing up here's your last chance!!

What were we thinking? To close on Labor day? Monday, September 7th?? No way... We will be open for business from 10am until 5pm.

We are still getting visits from the Fed Ex and UPS guys everyday. This past week we were graced with products from several companies. In the Tonic Studios boxes we got the new smaller Tim Holtz scissors with or without teflon coating, the new punch border system and several new punch designs. Crafty Secrets sent us the ever popular mini clothes hangers, their little boy and girl sweet chips chipboard outfits and an excellent judaic sticker. Our halloween/fall section is jam packed with the latest products including the Trick or Treat collection from Little Yellow Bicycle, Twilight and Amber Road by Pink Paislee, Wicked by KI Memories, the first ever Halloween collection including Thickers by American Crafts, Spooky Town by Imaginisce, the Creative Imaginations Helen Dardik halloween collection including drippy goo and spider web die cut papers, plus sparkly glittery papers from Best Creations and Robin's Nest. We also received a huge box full of Pulp refills - if you've been waiting for them, they're here!!

Also, have you see the new shaped Clear Scraps acrylic albums we got in? Watch for next month's calendar when Veronica Johnson will be here to teach another awesome class for us. Speaking of our October class calendar, we finally have all the details about our mystery guest designer. It's Marah Johnson of Creative Imaginations. You might have seen her mini album on display at our check out counter. It's loaded with techniques and tips on how to use your scrapbooking stash, so for all of you asking for a technique class, here's your chance! Marah will be here on October 17th and space is limited. As you can imagine, her class is already filling fast, so be sure to register soon so you don't miss out.

Finally, one last important topic we need to let you know about - at the end of this month we are hosting our 3rd Annual ScrapPINK Charity crop. Last year's event was a huge hit and we were able to send a check for $500.00 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. This year we would love to make this years contribution even bigger. This past week we have been inundated with boxes from our UPS Guy Joe. In an earlier post we mentioned all our goodies from 7 Gypsies - the Binderie is here, SEI, Creative Imaginations, Tapestry, Tattered Angels and Quickutz plus our shopping bags. Yes, our shopping bags are finally here, and the good news is we are NOT dicontinuing our "return a bag get a punch" program. Michelle Van Etten is coming to Scrapbook Place

On the last day of CHA, we were enjoying a hot cup of coffee in front of the Graphic 45 booth and up walks Michelle Van Etten. We started talking and she asked if we'd like to have her come to the store to teach a class or two. Of course, we agreed right away and have now finalized all the details. Michelle will be teaching two fabulous classes for us featuring products from Graphic 45, Tattered Angels and Prima, all of our favorites. Find out a bit more info about Michelle...

Michelle has been passionate about scrapbooking since the middle of 2005 and has been teaching since Jan 2006. She is currently married to the love of her life Jim and they have 2 lively adorable children James 6 and Malia 2.She resides in Valrico, Florida where the sun shines most of the time. She has a degree in Psychology but chooses to stay home with her kids. Her passion for scrapbooking began as a way to showcase pictures of her family but she soon realized it was more a way of life, documenting and recording the events that shape our lives.

Michelle has been blessed by having the support and endorsement of many companies in her career. She is an endorsed educator for Canon, Prima Marketing Inc, Tattered Angels, Accucut, Sassafras Las, Sukara, Beacon Adhesives, KI Memories, Graphic 45, and Serif. These companies are represented in most all classes she teaches.

The biggest dream for Michelle came true last year when she co-created a line of clear albums for Prima. They designed the extremely popular "Build-A-Book", manufactured by Prima Marketing, Inc. The collection has over 35 interchangeable pages that all work together to allow the artist to create their own unique album. As a Clear Album expert she co-authored 2 books on the subject for Design Originals "Clear Cards" and "Clear Classy Albums". Michelle is currently on the Tattered Angels Design Team and Crafty Secrets where she gets the honor of playing with the hottest products on the market.

Michelle’s personal style reflects her personality, a little eclectic and whimsical with a sense of balance. Her work is Shabby Chic Eclectic and very dimensional. She loves to create her own embellishments using the papers as a foundation. If you ask her students they would say she is very upbeat and has a ton of energy. She would just say that energy is just her passion for teaching.

She has had the honor and distinction of teaching at CKU for 2 years and now will be teaching for Canon USA at many CKCs and the 1st ever CK Digital Scrapbook Retreat. In 2 years she has traveled all over the USA, Canada 2 times, Holland 2 times, France, Italy, and Germany. Who knows where this year will take her but one things for sure it will be great.

Michelle has been published over 100 times and is one of the featured artists in the new Memory Makers Books “Outstanding Mini Albums” by Jessica Acs. The book can be ordered at http://www.amazon.com/.

Ok, so now that you have gotten to 'meet' Michelle, let's get down to the details. As we mentioned, she will be teacheing two classes on Friday, September 11th and Saturday, September 12th, 2009. Today we received part of our Clear Scraps order from CHA. The highlights were the new acrylic Sand Castle album and the acrylic Cupcake Album. CHA Update & Preview

We're home from CHA and feel that we were very productive. In the past the Summer Craft and Hobby Association Trade Show and Convention has been hosted in Chicago, this year the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando brought it to our back door. Being so close to home made it much easier to bring back new product samples and boy did we!!

In the past, we were always really excited after coming home from our all inspiring trip but then had to wait weeks or even months to receive the product. Luckily that's not the case this year and we are expecting deliveries as soon as this week.

Be on the look out for several new vendors coming to Scrapbook Place along with many of our long time favorites. We even have exclusivity to one of them, meaning we'll be the only store in South Florida to carry the companies entire new product line. Unfortunately we can't name names - the vendor wishes to remain anonimous, so mum's the word.... We'll be sure to let you know when the product arrives.

Our class calendars are already penciled in with exciting new and innovative classes and projects until the end of the year. Some of our plans include our 8th Anniversary Bash in September, several special events like our 3rd Annual ScrapPink Charity Crop and special Guest Designers. Speaking of guest designers, arrangements have been made with two extremely talented celebrity scrapbookers. We were approached on the trade show floor by these extremely talented artists and designers who asked us to come teach to our customers. We were totally flattered and of course agreed on the spot. We are taking advanced reservations and have the original autographed class samples on hand. Seats are limited and will sell out extremely fast. Now back to our 8th Anniversary Bash, in celebration of our 8 years of success, we're bringing in Guest Designer Michelle Van Etten. Michelle is a featured designer for Graphic 45, Tattered Angels, Prima and Crafty Secrets. Her class will feature products from these companies and introduce you to a really unique way of scrapbooking. Be sure to come see her layout at the store. Here are the June scrapbook challenge entries. The theme this month was Ready for Rub-ons and each contestant was given a set of alphabet rub-ons, a set of numerals and some rub-on elements along with other products and a sketch they were asked to loosely follow. Each of the entries were truly inspiring and the rub-ons were creatively incorporated in their pages. We still have a few kits available for just $5.00. Even though this month's challenge is over, you can still use the kit and these layouts as your guide and create your own fabulous layout or some cards.

Where has this year gone? We're already in June and that means the year is half over. As the saying goes the older you get the faster the years go by. It's all good though because that means we've been busy filling our shelves with new products, creating scrapbook layouts and mini albums and planning special monthly events all for you. Included in those special events is our Monthly Scapbook Callenge. May's challenge was titled "April Showers bring May Flowers" and once again we had a sell out month. Many of the challengers were quite busy with the Memorial Day holiday and the end of school so we only had 5 entries returned for judging. What great odds for a chance at a $50.00 gift card! Speaking of time passing, we realized that we never posted pictures of our National Scrapbooking Day crop. The post was created but never got posted. The ladies that joined us for the day had a great time and went home with armfuls of prizes and giveaways. All the croppers were asking when our next big crop would be, which by the way, will be our Scrappink Charity Crop at the end of September. Look for more info about it coming this August.

As for what's happening this month, did you hear? We're having a storewide sale tomorrow. The kits sold out in a matter of days, and the store was a buzz of activity as the contestants brought in their layouts for judging. Our premiere monthly scrapbook challenge is sold out! Wow what a great response we got to our first monthly challenge - this month features a black and white theme and we're anxious to see all the contestants entries. If you missed out this month, please make sure to mark your calendars now for next month. Kits will be available on April 1st for just $5.00 (no fooling!). The challenge winner will be awarded a $50.00 gift card.

We haven't blogged recently - so shame on us, but it's for good reason. We've been busy with make improvements to the store, creating customized albums and personalized gifts for several new clients. Keep in mind that we don't only do scrapbooks, but cards, paper crafts and shadowboxes.

Changes always mean new product and we are expecting a ton of new stuff from Creative Imaginations and American Crafts. Speaking of new product today we received the Easter Time line from Pebbles Inc., and we got the April issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine. Here at Scrapbook Place we've decided to start the New Year off with a brand new look. As you come into the store over the next few weeks you will notice that we're making lots of changes. One of the changes you'll notice right away is a new fresh face. We're proud to announce that Renee M. has joined our team. We look forward to all she has to offer the store and you, our customers. She is a fabulous teacher, has a terrific personality and there's always a smile on her face.

This week we got in the Sincerely Yours collection from Flair Designs. It's a sophisticated line with rich hues of burgundy and brown. This collection is wonderful for elegant valentine cards or a layout featuring a date night out with your hubby. Also, don't forget that we got the complete Love Letters collection from Little Yellow Bicycle. The red, grey and black paper and embellishment line is hot hot hot and Pamela made the most awesome mini album. There were so many scraps from the album that Nina and Sandy have swooped in to make cards with the extras.

Today we finally received our order from Sassafras Lass order. It's a really cute and it features the north pole narwal, the abominable snowman, gingerbread men and lots of candy!! This collection is perfect for all your holiday favorites like watching classic Christmas movies, building gingerbread houses and holiday lights. Come in an check it out before Nina buys it all.

We also received the latest issue of Memory Makes magazine today and don't forget today is Double Punch Monday.

The weekend is over and we survived our After Thanksgiving sale. We are still offering our paper sale aisle - 50% off and new papers are being added almost everyday. We also have a couple of tables with merchandise marked down 75% off. These specials are for a limited time as any remaining products are being donated to Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital. For those of you that may have been out of town, we have come up with some other ways to save on your scrapbooking supplies this month. How would you like to get a 40% discount off one item just for giving a toy? We are going to be collecting toys to help support the Marines Toys for Tots Foundation this year. Here's how it works: bring a new unwrapped toy to the store and receive a 40% discount off one item that you purchase that day.

The December class calendar is now available in the store and it wil be available on the website later today. We haven't scheduled a Midnight crop this month but if we get enough interest, Nina volunteered to work it. If you are interested in cropping, the available dates would be December 13th or the 20th (both dates are Saturdays). Call the store with your preferable date today.

Bring in your family pictures and Lisa Orr of Scrapbook to Share will be here on Sunday, December 7th and she can assist you in turning your scrapbook page into your holiday card. Bring your address book along and you can start addressing envelopes right away. Lisa will have your cards ready by the next day. We'll have Show and Tell with samples in the store. Well the EK Success, Martha Stewart, K & Company and Inkadinadoo sponsored Crop Scene Investigation Customer Appreciation Day and Crop has come and gone and it was a total success. Our deputy crafters were sharing clues and hints to find the suspects, while others were cropping and doing make-n-takes. Clues, you wonder, yes - each person that registered for the event here received clues to help detain the suspects and solve the case. We even caught this deputy crafter in the act and immediately detailed her for questioning. We also wanted to mention that our croppers and customers helped us donate just under $500.00 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure by attending our Scrappink crop and buying raffle tickets. This a huge contribution to a very important cause and we thank each person who contributed.

Many of you have been asking for details about our After Thanksgiving Storewide sale. Well we're not going to spill the beans just yet, because is will spoil the surprise. The sale runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving. Keep checking here for updates...

These new products came in this week from Doodlebug Design - Nina can't wait to use the valentine line, but she needs to finish our christmad projects first.

Sorry for not posting since last week, we were away at a mini convention in Orlando. We learned some new techniques, used some fantastic new tools and made lots of projects in a make-n-take frenzy. We even placed a few orders so look for some new stuff coming soon. Ask to see the projects during your next visit to the store.

Nina was so excited to have had a opportunity to meet and chat with one of her favorite designers for Creative Imaginations, Cheryl Mezzetti. They shared a few stories and plenty of laughs. Cheryl is a true inspiration. Be on the lookout for many new and exciting projects inspired by Cheryl's amazing talent. Don't forget too, if you purchase $25.00 in Creative Imaginations product this month, you will receive a charm bracelet with your first charm. Everyone had a delightful day

Everyone had their pink hearts in the right place for the right reasons. Everyone enjoyed themselves, had fun, made new friends and ate, laughed and scrapped all night. everyone was there to lend their support to the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Awareness. All the girls seemed to like their little "pink" totes and its contents as well as all the give aways that we had.

By the way the new cutter from Fiskars that Trish introduced us all to is flying out the door. Already got word that they are sold out at the company this week as well.

Anyone interested in purchasing some of her class kits? We have only a few left.

Wow-what a weekend!!

Well, we truly had an amazing weekend. The store hosted guest teacher and designer Trisha Ladouceur and she taught 8 amazing classes. All of our customers lucky enough to take one, some or all of her classes left the store on a creative high, and with a prize to boot. Trisha is truly an inspiration and full of knowledge. We want to send her a big 'THANK YOU' for visiting sunny south Florida, and although we are sad to see her go, we look forward to an encore in February 2009! For those of you that couldn't attend your favorite class, we do have a few kits available for sale that include full color pictures and instructions.

Up next is our 2nd Annual Scrappink Charity Crop. This Saturday, September 27th we will be cropping for 14 hours with food, fun and friends all for a good cause. If you haven't signed up yet, we still have a few spots left. Call the store today to reserve your spot and remember a portion of the crop fee is a charitable donation. If you can't attend the crop, you can purchase raffle tickets for some awesome prizes. Tickets can be purchased throughout the month of October and we will be drawing the winners on October 31st. All raffle ticket sale proceeds will be donated directly to the Susan G. Komen organization as well.

You know what I mean . The samples that designer Trisha Ladouceur has created with her expertise are just magnificent.!!!!! You have to come by and see them ASAP because the classes will certainly fill up once everybody gets to see, touch and feel them. They are AWESOME!!! The techniques she used on these samples are very unique and a great way to increase your scrappbooking repertoire.

We Look forward to hosting a weekend with Trisha Ladouceur from Alberta, Canada at the store. She will be here September 18th through to the 21st when she will be teaching us different techniques with Tattered Angels' glimmer mist, crackle gloss, water colored pencils, inks and stickles, just to name a few on acrylic and chipboard albums. She will also be using new products from My Mind's Eye and Hambly in her 12x12 awesome layouts. Registration is open and she has arranged for those wwho have signed up for 4 or more classes to their name entered into a drawing with a retail value of over $100.00. Trish is a bubbly and fun person. A good time will be had by all.

Well, here I go......This is my first blog, ever! I will try to keep you all informed as best to my ability as I can of what is going on at Scrapbook Place, from here on out. Since attending CHA 08 , boxes and boxes and more boxes have arrived daily. We received all our acetate and chipboard albums from Clear Scraps. Yippee!! Now we can create, create, and create. Talking about creating....Trish Ladouceur a Prima Donna from Prima Designs, Hambly , My Mind's Eye and Tattered Angels will be here next month. She will be offering 8 different classes one of which will be our midnight crop! So hurry up and reserve your seats, as classes are getting filled up. Then, in October, we have yet another "star" coming to our "Place". Stay tuned, because each month will be filled with fun, classes, guests, and more.
